Maidstone business has put its faith into two of the town’s talented athletes with a bumper sponsorship deal for both in order for them to fulfil their ultimate goal of competing in the Olympics.
Towergate, at Eclipse Park, Sittingbourne Road, are the first company to back rower Louise Ramsey and gymnast Courtney Tulloch as part of Maidstone council’s project to support local athletes compete in the 2012 London games.
As part of Maidstone’s Dream – Bring a Medal Home, Towergate has given a mammoth £750 to each of the athletes.
Nineteen-year-old Louise Ramsey is thrilled with the news. She said: “I am very grateful to be one of the first to have been offered sponsorship. The sponsorship will be of a great help to me. With the funding I will be able to gain access to greater facilities and equipment that will strengthen and increase my performance levels. I hope to attend many more competitions this year of much higher standard.”
While Courtney feels the same, saying: “I was proud to hear that a company was willing to offer a generous amount of sponsorship money towards my training.
“Thanks to the sponsorship I will be able to enjoy training hard this summer and working towards major competitions that are scheduled later in the year which include the British Championships in November.”
Maidstone Borough Council is thought to be one of the first councils in the country to be running a project of this kind for its athletes. Cabinet Member for Leisure and Culture, Cllr Brian Moss, said: “Every business in Maidstone can be involved. It doesn’t have to cost a lot of money but every business in Maidstone can contribute something.
“Towergate have made the first steps in supporting our home-grown talent, and hopefully more will follow suit now because this is a very good project. The athletes’ whole aim is devoted to sport and achieving, it would be absolutely magnificent if someone on this website does win a medal? We have some exceptionally good athletes here in Maidstone.”
The site is being funded by Maidstone council to help create a legacy from the London 2012 Olympic Games and promote sporting achievements in the borough.
